Hasbro Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen: Sideways

Sideways
Decepticon,
Revenge of The Fallen

Despite Sideways being given a small role in Transformers : Revenge of The Fallen, getting chased and cut in half by Sideswipe, he was given a sweet looking car mode.  At first glance, one could have mistaken it for the Audi R8 Sports Coupe. The most noticeable difference are the headlamps and rear lights section plus the centrally located exhausts. This is due Sideways not being a licensed product from Audi AG. (As Audi is part of the Volkswagen group, whose policy of not having its vehicles related to any warlike toys).

Sideways' car mode is metallic gray. In addition, there are some black effect stripes near the rear wheels and the lower section of the doors. The use of lighter shade of purple for both the front and rear windshields and the side windows. It may not be much, but the toy designers really went a step further in etching the details of the rear mounted engines. There is a big Decepticon logo at the back of the car.

In robot mode, Sideways' color scheme has more black and red sections compared to metallic gray. The color combination seems to pull it off, though it will get some using to, for the red sections. The head sculpt reminds us of Barricade. There is piping for the eyes to give it a magenta-ish glow. There is a spinning saw on his right arm. As for the for the left arm, there is a fake wheel. A spare wheel, perhaps? While looking at Sideways' form, he seems to look "bug-like" with his pair of "wings" which are actually the side window panels.

Sideways has the Mech Alive  plus the Automorph gimmick. The Mech Alive gimmick is mainly for the arms. Whenever the arm is moved, gears will spin at the elbow and inside the upper arm. As for the Automorph gimmick, Sideways begins the transformation by pressing on the front grille while in car mode.

Sideways is fairly decent in terms of posing though one has to try to find the "sweet spot" in getting him to stand upright. He is a bit on the top heavy side while his feet are too small thus affecting the stability while being posed.

Overall, one shouldn't overlook Sideways just because he died too quickly in the movie and for being a baddie.  Even though Sideways, has some minor flaws, mentioned earlier, he is one of those in the list of must-have Deluxe class figures.
