What is mecha?The word mecha is derived from the Japanese abbreviation, "meka" from the English word, mechanical. According to the Japanese, mecha usually refers to mechanical objects such as cars, guns, computers and more often than not, industrial robots. In addition, mecha has long been introduced in anime form, since the 1960s. Mecha has since evolved from Mitsuteru Yokoyama's Testsujin 28-go and Go Nagai's Mazinger Z to the current anime such as Gundam, Macross, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Zoids. Thanks to the soaring popularity of mecha anime or robot anime, various toy maker companies have tie-ins such anime.
